Medical practitioner with specialist training in anaesthesia and intensive care.
Dr David Schapiro graduated as a Medical Doctor at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, in 1998. He then undertook specialist training and was awarded a Fellowship in Anaesthesia (FCA) in 2005. He moved to Bundaberg in 2008 and obtained his Australian Specialist Anaesthetic Qualifications (FANZCA) in 2009.
Dr Schapiro's training has included all sub-specialities of anaesthesia (including neonatal, paediatric, cardiac and neuro-surgery), intensive care, acute pain management and emergency/crisis management including resuscitation.
As part of his continual professional development Dr Schapiro attends workshops, simulation sessions, congresses, reads journals and maintains ongoing clinical audits to ensure that he is up to date with his clinical knowledge and practice of anaesthesia. Dr Schapiro is on the Medical Advisory Committee for the Mater Hospital Bundaberg and is the Supervisor of Training for Interns doing their Anaesthetic rotations at the Mater Hospital in Bundaberg.
Dr Schapiro is registered as a Specialist Anaesthetist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA), the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) and the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). Dr Schapiro works at the Mater and Friendly Society Hospitals doing anaesthesia for all types of surgery including Orthopaedic, Spinal, Opthalmic, General, ENT and Dental Surgery.
